Polonnaruwa

Northern Sri Lanka is home to Polonnaruwa, a marvel of a city. In the 10th century, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa, which was ruled by the Chola Empire. After Anuradhapura, it is the second most historic kingdom in Sri Lanka. The town is divided into two sections: the Polonnaruwa new town, which focuses on development and infrastructure, and the Old Site, which has old ruins and monarchical architecture.
